Presentation Summary:

In this presentation, Jack Moyer will provide an overview of business continuity planning (BCP).  This will start with an explanation of what a BCP is and why every agency and company should have one.  It will explain how a BCP differs from an Emergency Response Plan (ERP) or Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) and how it relates to other plans, such as IT Disaster Response Plans (DRP).  It will provide an overview of the BCP-development process and critical components, such as identification of mission-essential functions (MEF), succession plans, and critical resources.

Presenter Bio:

Jack Moyer is a national subject matter expert in preparedness planning and emergency response.  For the past 14 years, he has been AECOM’s Water Security and Preparedness Practice Leader.  Previously he worked 29 years with Raleigh Water, retiring as Assistant Director of Public Utilities.  Jack has presented numerous papers and published multiple articles on topics such as business continuity planning, continuity of operations, crisis communications, employee relations during disasters, emergency preparedness, and tabletop exercises.  Recently he co-authored the AWWA Manual of Practice 19, Emergency Planning for Water and Wastewater Utilities and the AWWA Risk and Resilience Certificate Program.  He is a member and past Chairperson of the national AWWA Emergency Preparedness and Security Committee and member and past Chairperson on the NC AWWA-WEA Risk Management Committee.  Jack is a graduate of Penn State University with a BS degree in Community Development and a Master of Public Administration.
