In light of new developments surrounding the rapid global spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), InfraGard Charlotte has decided to provide our chapter meeting virtually through Microsoft Teams.  We feel this is the best solution considering the recent pandemic and are hopeful that this method will be accommodating to our members.

Virtual Meeting

Date and Time:  Wednesday March 18th 1:00pm EST

About Registration:  Once you register, an email will be sent to you Monday or Tuesday with information on how to join the meeting.  This will be done using Microsoft Teams.  All registered attendee’s will be granted usage of Teams thanks to the generously of Microsoft.   If you currently use Microsoft Teams at work, that will work as well.

Presentation – SA Samuel Messinger of the United State Secret Service and SSA Brian Cyprian of the FBI will be presenting on The Crtical Infrastructure Subcommittee for the Republican National Convention. This is an incredibly important subcommittee in that is created to provide physical and cyber security for infrastructure and utilities that will effect many Charlotte area businesses.   A summary of this committee is as follows:

–          National Special Security Events, or NSSEs, are significant events which, by virtue of their profile or status, represent a significant target and warrant additional preparation, planning and mitigation efforts.  The Secretary of Homeland Security is responsible for designating NSSEs.  Historically, NSSEs have included the annual State of the Union address, presidential inaugurations, presidential nominating conventions and the annual United Nations General Assembly.

–          When designated as an NSSE, by federal law, the United States Secret Service assumes the lead role for the design and implementation of the operational security plan.  As a part of the planning, the “critical infrastructure subcommittee” is established with the responsibility of coordinating the physical and cybersecurity plans for infrastructure and utilities.  These plans are coordinated with federal, state, county and local government partners as well as power companies, utility providers and communications companies.

–          Throughout the planning process, members of the critical infrastructure subcommittee are encouraged to internally assess their readiness and make use of various external resources to assess and identify vulnerabilities.  A number of training opportunities have been afforded the members of the subcommittee, including participation in tabletop exercises (TTXs).  Members have also been leveraging each others’ experiences through networking opportunities and learning best practices from others in their field.

Thanks for everyones understanding in this change.  Special thanks to Jim Payne and Microsoft for binging this solution to our chapter!

Looking forward to everyone joining us online.
